Welcome to Sophia P. Kingston Elementary School's Media Center, where we are transforming learning beyond boundaries.  My name is Ms. Dozier.  I am the Media Specialist.  I have worked at Kingston for three years.  We invite parents to join us in the library anytime as we prepare life long learners through reading.

Mission Statement

The Sophia P. Kingston Elementary School Media Center recognizes the responsibility of promoting the value of libraries and is challenged to provide a place for students and staff to appreciate the power of information. Our mission is to inspire a passion for knowledge and a love of reading, to teach students to become skilled users of information tools, to develop life-long learners, and to integrate technology into the school curriculum through collaboration. We are dedicated to providing access to a balanced collection of print and electronic materials that will enhance the independent learning styles of lifelong learners.

  •  To instill in students a desire to be life-long readers and to have the ability to search for answers independently in the Media Center.
  •   To acquire and maintain a balanced collection of media center resources, which represent a wide range of subjects, levels of difficulty and formats.

  • To provide learning experiences which encourage students to become proficient users of information and technology.

  • To support the Selma City School System's curriculum and the teachers' classroom programs by providing necessary materials and appropriate guidance and instruction to students.

  Library Policies

 Circulation Guidelines

Enrolled students may check out books for a period of two weeks. Books may be renewed once. Reference books, periodicals, and non-book materials will not be checked out to students. Teachers may check out materials for two weeks or longer if necessary. Materials may be reserved by teachers with a written request.

Students with overdue books will not be allowed to check out additional books until the overdue book is either returned or brought into the library to be renewed. Overdue notices will be prepared and placed in each homeroom teacher's mailbox for distribution to students.

Lost books must be reported to the  Media Specialist immediately. If the book cannot be found, the student must pay for the book. Students will also be responsible for payment of damaged materials.
